Today, integrating a specific typeface onto a web page has become easy. The temptation, for many reasons, to create your own font is strong. In my case, let’s be completely honest, it started as a good ego trip: the ego trip of seeing my own handwriting usable however I wanted, in every software I wanted, just like that! One could go on at length about the reasons for creating your own font, since there are fortunately many others, but that is not the point here. Creating your own font is within reach of the first fool who comes along, since I managed it! And it can be done for free. And that is the experience I’m going to share in this article!

Recently, I finished a particularly fascinating book series to read: The Cursed Kings.
What is it?
It is a literary saga that enjoyed phenomenal success at the time of its release, and which earned its author, Maurice Druon (incidentally, nephew of Joseph Kessel), a genuine popular following, in addition to numerous official awards (Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, Commander of Arts and Letters, Medal of Free France, etc.). He is also known for having helped write the lyrics of the Song of the Partisans. This should not make us forget, however, some controversial stirrings concerning the man, before he disappeared…

There are a multitude, an infinity of keyboard shortcuts that make our lives easier all the time.
So many that we often forget them.
Among the ones I forget most often, and yet which are so practical when browsing the web, are the one that lets you go directly to the URL bar and the one that lets you access the browsers’ search bar.

The ATL+D combination lets you access the URL bar directly and edit it.

The CTRL+E key combination lets you access the browser’s search bar directly
Be careful, these keys are tied to their software, and it is only by a kind of tacit convention that browsers implement them or not. For example, these combinations do not work in Opera (but they do in all the others).

Alas, how happy I would be if I had unlimited credits, and as many arms and brains to carry out all my desires, my creations, my folies !
I’m going to tell you about one of my ideas among others, but one that I turned into an image, just to share it more easily!
A new tablet?
As Microsoft has just released its new Surface tablet, with its clean and streamlined design, I was relatively impressed by the keyboard system.

Written by Simon Sebag Montefiore (British writer / historian specialized in the history of Russia), the biography of the dictator Stalin, “The Court of the Red Tsar”, the edition I browsed is spread over two “pocket” volumes (which have only the title), separating Stalin’s “reign” into two periods, from 1929 to 1941, and from 1941 to 1953.
The objects
The two books, a Tempus edition, are in fact one and the same book. The covers are photos that really strike the imagination; I found myself reading the descriptions on the back to know who was on them (apart from Stalin, obviously…). On the other hand, the publisher made a catastrophic choice by splitting it into two books, even if this is perfectly justified from a narrative point of view. Indeed, from the very first readings, pages detached from the spine of the book… On the other hand, the “pocket” format still allowed me to read it on the subway without difficulty. Perhaps “The Court of the Red Tsar” should have been divided into four volumes?
The writing
The writing is simple and accessible (it is a translation from English) and this huge documentary work brings out a wealth of anecdotes and details that one undoubtedly savors! The historian spent more than two years on it, and personally collected numerous testimonies from former members of the court. By the end of the book, one has the impression of having somewhat rubbed shoulders with Stalin in power, and one realizes the steel nerves it took to do it! You feel anxious along with the people around him!

Screenshot of the Céleste Sélène website
At last, it’s out!
What?
Well, the site, Céleste Sélène!
Céleste Sélène is a dream long in the making, as old as humanity, some would say, especially me! It’s a website that lets you upload an image (for now), a flag image. This image is then put into context on… the moon! You can place the flag wherever you want, on the moon map, and see a pseudo rendering of what it would look like.
I had been working on it relentlessly for a good year, so I’m delighted to finally see it sprout!
It sits at the crossroads of several of my passions: graphic design, imagination, science fiction, epics, space conquest! I hope you’ll find some interesting reading there, “food for thought” as I very much want it to become!
The URL: http://celesteselene.net
Happy reading, and I’m counting on your contributions!

…is a book written by Diane Ducret, and this book has already enjoyed a certain undeniable commercial success since volume 2 has already been released. If this book initially attracted me, it was probably above all because of its title, which suggests a rich, fascinating and troubling universe.
What is it about?
Women of Dictator
deals, as its name suggests, with women who accompanied major dictators of the 20th century. Dictators such as Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini or Mao, but also Ceaucescu, Lenin, Bokassa or Salazar. The women, for their part, were not necessarily lovers or wives, because sometimes, when it comes to determining whether the act was committed, it is sometimes impossible to determine it. But these are women who probably played a decisive role in the entourage of these dictators, at least emotionally

Being a big fan of a good quiche Lorraine myself, I naturally turned to this recipe for my culinary experiments!
Indeed, what better than this dish, which opens up so many possibilities, to allow oneself some freedom.
The arsenal:
- 1 leek
- 3 onions
- 3 eggs
- 100 grams of bacon bits
- 50 g of grated Gruyère or the like (Parmesan, for example)
- 60 cl of light crème fraîche
- 20 cl of milk
- one puff pastry sheet
- 150 to 200 g of sliced mushrooms (button mushrooms or otherwise!)
- Salt + pepper + nutmeg.
The theater of operations:
- an oven
- hot plates
- a mixing bowl + a frying pan + an oven dish

I am currently working for Twenga, a price comparison site.
Like most companies, it has a strong visual identity, marked by a logo identifiable by a target, marked with an arrow.
For fun and because it was trendy, I got drawn into recreating the logo in pure CSS, with no image or JavaScript!
An exercise as tedious as it is fun and pointless, I tackled it, curious to see whether I would run into any unexpected difficulty or discovery!
The main blue outer circle. On top of the blue circle, the first inner circle, white. The small blue circle at the center of the target. The nearly transparent white circle that creates the reflective effect for the whole target. The tip of the white arrow that stands out.White mask. The tip of the brown arrow.Left white part of the arrow, which goes over the outer circle.Left brown part of the arrow, which goes over the circle.Brown right / upper part of the arrow.Mask for the bottom of the previous part, with the same background as the blue circle.Mask of the mask (!) which makes it possible to soften the blue of the mask below in the same way as span.circle4 does.
